My career started at 17 when I left school to work in an electronics store. I soon went from sales assistant to supervisor to sales manager. After ten years in the retail trade, I'm an operations manager for a store with a multimillion pound annual turnover. Although I was proud of my accomplishments and had tons of experience, I had never completed a formal management course and felt that training could improve my managerial and business skills. I want to excel at my current job and have plans to start my own business in future, so I contacted Business Owner Coaching to see how coaching could benefit me. The company offered an executive coaching course tailored to my needs, so I decided to take the plunge.

Executive coaching was an investment in my future. My coach helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses before we started training, so we focused on improving the skills that need work and making the most of my experience. I'm more confident, communicate effectively, stay calm in a crisis and approach problems with an open mind. I've learned to inspire those around me, delegate tasks to the right people and motivate employees. I no longer fail before I've tried because I have faith in my own abilities. The knowledge I've gained allowed me to manage my own time better and increase productivity in the store.

Because I'm more confident, my dream of owning my own business will become a reality soon. I want to climb the career ladder and gain some experience as a store manager before striking out on my own. The company I work for has noticed the improvement in my work and in the productivity of my employees, and we're discussing my promotion. The skills I learned during the executive coaching programme will benefit me for the rest of my life, as an employee and as a business owner.

Ryan Andrews, Operations Manager

Having a great idea for a business is one thing - turning that idea into a successful business is something else entirely. When I started my plumbing business, my staff consisted of an apprentice and myself. The business soon expanded, and I took on more employees to deal with the ever-increasing workload. After a year, my team had grown to ten people, but I noticed that jobs were taking too long to complete and callouts were a mess. Administrative duties kept me in the office, and managing my staff became a nightmare. Instead of taking on more employees to take up the slack, I decided to look into business coaching because I realised that I needed to change the way I approached my growing company.

I signed up for a Business Owner Coaching executive coaching course to develop my leadership skills, resolve my operational issues and learn how to keep my staff motivated. This is the best investment I've ever made. The business coach didn't tell me how to run my business. Instead, he helped me identify problems and pinpoint my unique business needs before equipping me with the leadership tools I needed to improve performance.

My confidence increased and I learned how to motivate those around me. I stopped focusing on the negative, set performance and service goals, and started communicating with my staff like a leader should. My staff has grown to 20 people, including an office manager. I can supervise my team in the field without worrying about invoicing and cash flow. I've trained my employees on effective time management, implemented efficient business practices and invested in software that increases productivity. Properly planning callouts and site visits has reduced costs while increasing customer satisfaction. The business continues to grow because of our outstanding service, which is all thanks to effective leadership.
